Why that price?

If you are buying any boat, this "Power & Motoryacht" article is a must read: Guaranteed to improve your understanding of modern diesel power and common rail engines with electronic fuel injection.

It is crucial to understand why Lady Katie is bargain-priced. The answer is in her engines. Some similar 1999 model boats are selling for as little as $100,000 but any other boat with these modern engines will be priced at $250,000 or above. Ask a surveyor: the fiberglass never wears out.

Lady Katie's engines are 2007 Cummins QSC 8.3 Liter, common rail, electronic injection diesels, 500HP each. Cruise speed is 32 knots and top speed is over 34 knots (40 MPH). But that's not all. There is virtually no soot (on the transom) nor exhaust smell. The Glendinning electronic single-lever controls (no kinky cables) are smooth and produce trolling speeds effortlessly. The fuel flow system is so accurate that you can carry less extra fuel, not needing to rely on an analog fuel gauge.

The engine installation cost was $127,000. The engines alone were $84,000 with the balance being for controls, other equipment, and installation. Cummins advises that these 500 HP engines can be reprogrammed to deliver 540 HP for less than $500 each.
